Festivity Sweet Corn: 90 days from seed to eating cobs. Annual. An open-pollinated sweet corn (Zea mays) that originally hails from Lupine Knoll Farm in Southern Oregon. Multi-colored kernels with a crisp starchy flavor, fast producing, and from our experience, less predated upon by common corn pests.
Marketmore 76 Cucumber: 70 days. Annual. The most popular open-pollinated cucumber variety for market farmers and home gardeners alike. Plants bear seven to nine-inch dark-green fruits that are crisp and mildly sweet. Skins are relatively smooth, having tiny, soft spines that rub off quite easily. Fruits resist bitterness even in hotter summer conditions. Plants are resistant to multiple diseases, including angular leaf spot, anthracnose and mildews.
Chinese Giant Red Bell Pepper: 100 days to fruit. Annual. Plants produce thick walled fruits four to six inches in diameter and ripen from green to red. Unlike many market hybrids, these bell peppers are crisp and sweet in flavor and strike a good balance with some field hardiness (resistance to sun damage).
Cayenne Pepper: From transplant: 80 days green, 105 days red. Annual. Its potent heat and thin walls make it the ideal pepper for drying and grinding into powder for culinary or medicinal use. Bushy plants to three feet tall produce great numbers of thin, slightly-crinkled, three to five inch long peppers that ripen green to bright red. This outstanding variety not only adds a serious kick to dishes, 30,000-50,000 SHU (Scoville heat units), but is also very highly-valued in herbal medicine.
Sugar Baby Watermelon: 90 days from seed. Annual. An heirloom watermelon (Citrullus lanatus) that has an important role in today's small organic gardens and farms. Sugar Baby is red-fleshed, black seeded watermelon that produces fruits ours produced fruits anywhere from 4-6 pounds with a light to dark green striped rind. Fast growing and perfectly sized: perfect for distributing in Community Supported Agriculture shares.
Black Beauty Zucchini: 60 days to fruit production from transplant or 70 days when direct seeded. Annual. An early, extremely productive heirloom zucchini (Cucurbita pepo) introduced in the United States in the late 1950s. Ideal variety for backyard and urban gardens. Plants produce the archetypal slender green fruit. It has a bush-like habit, but it has been known to travel. When planting be considerate of future growth and provide ample spacing. As with all zucchini varieties, harvesting the fruits consistently prolong the production and life span of the plant. In the height of the growing season when the fruits grow extremely fast, harvest twice a week. With the proper care and planting consideration, zucchini plants can last all season, and beyond, in some cases.
Czech Bush Tomato: Fruits approximately 90 days from seed and 70 days from transplanting. Annual. A squat, quick growing determinate tomato (Solanum lycerpersicum) that requires very little upright trellising. Sturdier bushes than Sasha's Altai and prolific yields of red fruits four to six inches in diameter. This is a great sauce tomato; a fair amount of acid content and a slight sweetness. A definite workhorse.
