This autumn, the maximalist mantel is having a moment. Our creative styling team took a more-is-more approach here, filling the fireplace with a mix of velvet pumpkins, glass pumpkins, and even fresh gourds.

The asymmetrical statement-maker is crafted using some branches foraged out of a backyard with preserved stems tied to it. We recommend starting small and working your way up as you get more comfortable! The key is the asymmetry of the entire mantel—that’s what gives it balance.

A few garlands draped between the mantel itself and the preserved arrangements acts as a unifying styler. Adding a couple pumpkins or mushrooms to the floor surrounding the mantel creates a cohesive, complete look.

Important note: Do not light candles or fireplace near dried or preserved stems. Use care when styling a mantel.
