About Tamgroute Pottery: Located in the south of Morocco, Tamgroute is a village that dates back to the 1600's. Translated to mean "the last place before the desert," Tamgroute's proximity to the Sahara desert informs the creation of each piece of pottery, from the materials to colors used. Tamgroute uses huge chunks of clay that are dug from the palm groves near the Draa riverbed, up to ten meters deep. Artisans from seven families work together to create each piece by hand, using manual pottery wheels and wood stoves. It takes about seven days for their glazes to fully develop before it's applied to the clay; this meticulous process means the color never fades, even when exposed to humidity or heat.
