What’s Happening at Terrain

SPECIAL DINNERS + COCKTAIL PARTIES

Join us for special dinners that range from casual barbecues on the patio to four-course meals in the greenhouse at all our Terrain Cafe locations.

We host celebrated top chefs from around the country, bringing their unique and delicious visions to life in our kitchens; often in conjunction with a recently published cookbook or to bring awareness to a specific cause. Some of our recent favorites include a cocktail party with Martha Stewart, a slow cooker dinner with Hugh Acheson, and a four-course dinner with Edward Lee. We enjoy inviting these chefs to collaborate with our in-house cafe teams to create one-of-a-kind dining experiences for our guests that celebrate food, community, nature, and design. You’ll have the chance to taste local, seasonal flavors shining through innovative dishes while enjoying curated beverage pairings.

workshops + demonstrations

We offer seasonal container planting workshops with our master gardeners, natural crafts for the kids, morning yoga in the garden, along with guest lectures from some of the world’s most beloved plants-people – like Great Dixter’s Fergus Garrett, award-winning garden designer Annie Guilfoyle, and the director of the “Five Seasons of Piet Oudolf” documentary, Thomas Piper, to name a few.

Bring your mom, sister, or friend for a terrarium making workshop for your indoor garden or come solo for a lesson in bread-making with our culinary team.

seasonal festivals + open houses

From kicking off garden season at our Dig into Spring festival to ushering in winter’s magic at Holiday Open House, our annual festivals have become beloved family traditions for the local community.

Celebrate new seasons with gardening workshops, begin the gift giving season by shopping our artisan markets, and join the little ones for fun craft workshops you’ll treasure forever. You can also stock up on garden gear, home décor, and more nature-inspired essentials to make the coming season special.

Five Seasons: The Gardens of Piet Oudolf Documentary at Home Screening

We recently hosted world-renowned Dutch garden designer Piet Oudolf for a special conversation with filmmaker Tom Piper on the making of Piper’s documentary Five Seasons: The Gardens of Piet Oudolf. Piet walked us through his private gardens at Hummelo, while answering questions from Tom and a live audience about his past work, future projects, and the making of the film. View the two part conversation here and here.

Now we’re honored to share the film in its first public release for at home viewing. An immersive and meditative documentary, Five Seasons reveals how Oudolf’s revolutionary landscape designs upend our conventional notions of nature, public space, and, ultimately, beauty itself. Speaking to a broad audience: garden, plant and nature lovers, the film has screened to rapt crowds at art museums, design schools, urban planning forums and environmental conferences.

Access is $15 for one device and will expire after 48 hours.
