Frequently Asked Questions on Matches

What are decorative matches and how are they different from everyday matches?

Beyond their good looks, decorative matches often burn are often longer and a bit wider, which translates to a smoother burn that occurs a little slower and steadier; ideal for lighting candles, fireplaces, and gas stoves where a longer reach matters. Many are hand-dipped in colored tips to coordinate with your home's palette.

How do I use a match holder?

A match holder is a small vessel—crafted from glass, ceramic, or metal—that keeps matches upright, organized, and within easy reach. Simply drop your matches in stick-first, so the striking tips face upward for a quick, effortless light. Most match holders include a textured strip along the side or base for striking. Beyond function, they're designed to sit beautifully on a mantel, countertop, or bathroom vanity, adding a finishing touch to your styled surfaces.

Why should I choose matches over a lighter?

Matches offer a warmer, more intentional lighting ritual that lighters simply can't replicate. The gentle strike-and-glow of a match is part of the sensory experience, especially with longer fireplace matches that keep your hand safely away from the flame. Matches are beautifully packaged to double as decor and no refilling or fuel is required.
