3 Floral Scrubs for Winter Skin

Newly arrived from Minnesota's Golden Fig Fine Foods, a trio of edible flower varieties is adding vibrant color and fragrance to our salads, cocktails, and desserts this season. While we're finding lots of uses for these fresh arrivals in the kitchen, we're also taking them to the spa with a trio of homemade floral scrubs. Infused with essential oils and fragrant flowers, these simple scrubs are the perfect pick-me-up for midwinter skin. Packed into a Weck jar, they also make a thoughtful gift for friends and hostesses. Read on to get the recipes and learn more about the benefits of each ingredient.

First up, hibiscus petals take center stage in a sea salt body scrub. Exfoliating salt forms the base of this recipe along with nourishing coconut oil, which helps to prevent moisture loss from the skin during dry winter weather. Hibiscus petals and a few drops of essential oil offer a beneficial dose of Vitamins A and C, plus a soft fragrance for relaxation. Finally, Vitamin E oil is rich in antioxidants to fight skin-aging free radicals.

Hibiscus Sea Salt Body Scrub
1 cup sea salt
1/2 cup coconut oil
5-7 drops hibiscus essential oil
2 tablespoons hibiscus flowers
1/2 teaspoon Vitamin E oil
12.5 oz. Weck jar

Mix sea salt, coconut oil, hibiscus essential oil, and Vitamin E oil in a small bowl until fully combined. Add more salt or coconut oil as needed to achieve desired consistency. Gently fold in hibiscus flowers, then store in a Weck jar. After a warm shower, gently massage onto clean skin, then rinse. Follow with moisturizing lotion.

A beautiful addition to the countertop, our second scrub pairs anti-inflammatory sweet almond oil with extra fine sugar for light exfoliation. Rich in Vitamin E, sweet almond oil serves as a gentle moisturizer that's perfect for sensitive skin. Sandalwood essential oil promotes calmness and mental clarity, while rose essential oil boosts mood and immune system function.

Rose & Sandalwood Sugar Scrub
1 cup extra fine sugar
1/2 cup sweet almond oil
3-4 drops rose essential oil
3-4 drops sandalwood essential oil
2 tablespoons rose petals

Mix sugar, sweet almond oil, and essential oils in a small bowl until fully combined. Add more sugar or sweet almond oil as needed to achieve desired consistency. Gently fold in rose petals, then store in a Weck jar. After a warm shower, gently massage onto clean skin, then rinse. Follow with moisturizing lotion.

An invigorating blend of brown sugar and coffee provides the exfoliant in our final scrub, paired with a moisturizing dose of coconut oil. Rich in antioxidants to fight signs of aging, ground coffee also offers caffeine to tighten skin and reduce inflammation. Lavender buds and essential oil round out the recipe, providing an anxiety-reducing fragrance and healing properties for dry or damaged skin.

Lavender & Coffee Hand Scrub
3/4 cup fine brown sugar
1/4 cup finely ground coffee
1/2 cup coconut oil
5-7 drops lavender essential oil
2 tablespoons lavender buds

Mix sugar, coffee, coconut oil, and essential oil in a small bowl until fully combined. Add more sugar or coconut oil as needed to achieve desired consistency. Gently fold in lavender, then store in a Weck jar. Scrub clean hands after washing, then follow with balm or moisturizing lotion.
