Design by Terrain: Spring Plantings in Pastel Pots

Our newest collection of terracotta planters comes in a trio of pretty pastels—light pink, mint green, and capping off with dusky gray. Our Design by Terrain team was inspired to come up with a special seasonal planting for each of the springtime hues and we’re delighted to share the stunning results with you here! We chatted with two of our Design by Terrain specialists, Francis H. and Caroline D., to get all the design details.

Breezy Blue Rhapsody: “The calming color of this planter instantly read succulents to us, so we planted it up with a slew of interesting succulents like epiphyllum, black rose aeonium, rat tail cactus, hen and chicks, and a couple varieties of sansevieria. We topped it off with a beautifully shaped ghostwood branch to help achieve height in the arrangement,” Caroline explains. “We felt the plantings inside this pot should transport the viewer to a far off climate zone with just a simple glance and would make the perfect piece for deck or patio, to further extend a sense of ‘getting away’ and disconnecting from everyday life,” Francis adds.

Purple Haze: “Bursting with lush greens and vibrant color, this pot is filled with Persian chocolate Lysmachia, Allium "Gladiator", and Polemonium Reptans. For height and whimsy, we framed the planting with curly pieces of Harry Lauder's walking stick, a variety of hazel,” Francis explains. Caroline adds, “this planting represents the headiness of high spring, with its opulent bright blossoms and haze of pollen, buzzing bees, and wild vines.”

Spring’s Promise:
“This particular planting is a piece that truly celebrates both plant and container. The white blossoms of this fantastic magnolia shrub remind us of the promise of spring’s renewal. The swath of its branches draw the eye upward, creating height and drama, while the carefully selected underplanting of heucherella grounds the piece, marrying the two together. We are just dipping our toe into the delicious colors of spring, and we are going to savor every moment!,” Francis enthuses.
