Read on for three super-simple and delicious recipes that are brightening our winter days.
Citrus & Herb
This bright and cleansing juice is our choice for an afternoon pick-me-up, with fresh citrus offering antioxidants, potassium, and Vitamin C. Blueberries and a hint of agave add sweetness, while fresh rosemary or basil provides herbal complexity.
(2-3 servings)
Juice of 3 medium lemons or limes
2 cups filtered water
1 cup blueberries
2 tablespoons agave nectar
Rosemary or basil to taste
Beet, Carrot, & Berry
Fresh berries and red beets give this juice its vibrant color, plus some great health benefits! Beets are high in potassium, iron, and fiber as well as several essential vitamins, while berries improve mental sharpness, reduce inflammation, and boost Vitamin C levels. We rounded out this recipe with Vitamin A-rich carrots, apples for a hint of sweetness, and fresh mint.
(2-3 servings)
2 apples
1 small or 1/2 medium beet
2 carrots
1 cup berries
Mint to taste
Lemon, Ginger, & Tumeric
We love this "detox tea" when we're in the mood for a warm, healthy sip. Ginger is a winter multi-tasker, offering an immunity boost for fighting off colds as well as pain and nausea relief, while tumeric is a natural detoxifier with benefits for healthy skin. Paired up with fresh citrus, this cozy and invigorating brew offers warmth and brightness during the colder months.
(1 serving)
1/2 teaspoon tumeric powder
1/2 teaspoon ginger powder or 1 teaspoon grated ginger root
Juice of 1/2 lemon
1 1/2 cups filtered water
Raw honey to taste
Simmer ginger, tumeric, and water over medium heat for 5-10 minutes (do not boil). Strain, then stir in lemon juice and honey.
