Urban Renegades

August 3, 2012

Making their mark on Philadelphia's community gardens, we're happy to call these two locals our colleagues, and happier still to share the fruits of their labor.

Chris D.'s vision and readiness to dig in led to the greening of his Bella Vista neighborhood park.

Laura T.'s South Philadelphia community garden provides fresh produce and a welcome respite for the surrounding community.

How does irrigation work in the community garden? Curious since I want to initiate one in an apartment community. Please advise.

Every garden is a bit different, but for Laura’s the organization that owns the land - the Neighborhood Gardens Association / A Philadelphia Land Trust (NGA) - provided a grant for a spigot that connects to the waterline. Good luck with your own garden, we would love to hear how it goes!
