A few guidelines for container care, to keep yours lasting through the seasons.
Terracotta, Ceramic, Pottery, Concrete
These materials are not winter hardy and are prone to cracking when exposed to cold temperatures and moisture. They should be brought indoors before a frost, which can occur as early as September in the northeast.
For containers too large to store indoors; empty the container, flip it over and cover it with a tarp.
Clean with mild soap and water and a non-abrasive scrubbing brush.
Resins and Fiberglass
These materials are winter hardy and can withstand the elements. Clean with mild soap and avoid abrasives. Use a soft cloth for wiping dirt or debris from the surface.
Metals
Metal containers are winter hardy and can withstand the elements. Clean with warm water and a soft cloth, avoiding abrasives. For more stubborn stains, use an appropriate cleanser for the specific metal.
