Originally printed in 1895 by Vilmorin-Andrieux & Cie, it is the result of a collaboration between plant merchant and connoisseur Philippe Victoire de Vilmorin, and his father-in-law Pierre Andrieux, who was a botanist to the king. Reproduced here with exquisite attention to detail, each illustration was originally hand-painted by one of the fifteen artists, most of them trained at the Royal Gardens, who were employed to create this splendid work of agro-botanic iconography.
